The Melanesian Institute team was grateful to have a meaningful short meeting with the retired Major General, Mr. Jerry Singirok, currently serving as the Team Leader for the United Nations’ Small Arms Survey. Sir Singirok was accompanied by his team, Mrs. Babra. The meeting was focused on exploring collaborative approaches in tackling long-standing conflicts and violence and pledged to support joint advocacy and educational initiatives aimed at peacebuilding in the Highlands region. As part of the engagement, a public dialogue was facilitated and broadcast through Radio Maria PNG, offering a platform for a broader audience to hear the insights and experiences shared during the meeting. Mr. Jerry Singirok also presented a copy of his book A Matter of Conscience: Operation Rausim Kwik to the Melanesian Institute at the conclusion of the meeting.

In a groundbreaking initiative aimed at promoting peace and unity, the Gena community of Kerowagi District convened at Kendene Catholic Parish to address pressing societal challenges, including sorcery accusation-related violence, gender-based violence, substance abuse, and election-related conflicts. The event featured an inspiring call for forgiveness and collaboration from local leaders, including Member of Parliament Hon. Francis Kikin Siune, alongside community advocates.
With vibrant participation from residents and youth, this gathering marked a pivotal moment in the district's journey toward reconciliation and healing. By coming together to confront these deep-rooted issues, the community is ushering in a new era of progress and cooperation, reinforcing its commitment to building a safer and more inclusive future for all.
The Melanesian Institute, alongside Mr. Steven Aparo, Secretary General of the Evangelical Alliance, and the National Secretary of the Foursquare Church Education Agency, is discussing an important Advocacy Workshop. This workshop aims to empower church and community leaders to address the violence that arises from sorcery accusations. It will take place at the Melanesian Institute from June 25 to 27, 2025.
